A Flower Hat
Daisy, daisy
Especially fun to view from above, this ultra-cute hat is sure to keep your baby’s head
toasty and warm
Size
Newborn (0–6 months, 6–12 months, 1–2 years, 2 years and up)
Yarn
Rowan Handknit Cotton (100% cotton; 93 yards/50 grams), 1 skein #303 Sugar and small
amounts of #309 Celery and #319 Shell
GGH Samoa (50% cotton/50% microfiber; 104 yards/50 grams), 1 skein #18 (white)
Tools
16-inch circular needles, size 7, or size needed to obtain gauge
Set of four double-pointed needles, size 7, or size needed to obtain gauge
Stitch marker
Ruler or tape measure
Scissors
Yarn needle

5 stitches per inch
HAT
With circular needles and Sugar, use the long-tail method to cast on 56 (64, 72, 80, 88)
stitches. Slip a stitch marker onto the right needle to mark the beginning of the round.
Join to make a circle for knitting in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Knit
every round until the hat measures 5 (51/2, 6, 61/2, 7) inches from the cast-on edge. Next,
begin the decrease sequence for the top of the hat.
Decrease Sequence
Round 1: Knit 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round.
49 (56, 63, 70, 77) stitches remain.
Round 2: Knit 5 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round.
42 (48, 54, 60, 66) stitches remain.
Round 3: Knit all stitches.
Round 4: Knit directly onto 3 of the double-pointed needles as follows:
Needle 1: Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) times. 10 (15, 15,
15, 20) stitches are on the first needle.
Needle 2: Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) times. 10 (15, 15,
15, 20) stitches are on the second needle.
Needle 3: Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat 3 (2, 3, 4, 3) times. 15 (10, 15,
20, 15) stitches are on the third needle.
35 (40, 45, 50, 55) total stitches remain.
Use the fourth, or free, double-pointed needle to knit the stitches on each needle for the
following rounds.
Round 5: Knit all stitches.
Round 6: Knit 3 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round.
28 (32, 36, 40, 44) stitches remain.
Rounds 7 and 8: Knit all stitches.
Round 9: Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round.
21 (24, 27, 30, 33) stitches remain.
Round 10: Knit all stitches.
Round 11: Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round.
14 (16, 18, 20, 22) stitches remain.
Round 12: Knit 2 stitches together. Repeat to the end of the round. 7 (8, 9, 10, 11)
stitches remain.
Stem
Switch to Shell and knit for 6 rounds. On the next round, knit 2 stitches together until
4 total stitches remain. Switch to Celery and knit all of the stitches onto 1 double-pointed
needle. Work I-cord for 2 inches.
Bind off the remaining stitches.
Cut the yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail, and pull the tail through the remaining stitch. Thread it
onto a yarn needle, pull it through the center of the I-cord, and secure it on the inside of
the hat.
Petals
(make 6)
With white and 2 double-pointed needles used as straight needles to knit back and forth,
use the long-tail method to cast on 3 stitches.
Row 1: Knit in the front and back of the first stitch, knit 1 stitch, knit in the front and
back of the last stitch. 5 stitches.
Row 2: Purl in the front and back of the first stitch, purl 3 stitches, purl in the front and
back of the last stitch. 7 stitches.
Row 3: Knit all stitches.
Row 4: Purl all stitches.
Rows 5–8: Repeat rows 3 and 4 two times.
Row 9: Slip 1 stitch, slip 1 stitch, knit 2 slipped stitches together through the back loops,
knit 3 stitches, knit 2 stitches together. 5 stitches remain.
Row 10: Slip 1 stitch, slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together through the back loops, knit 1
stitch, knit 2 stitches together. 3 stitches remain.
Bind off the remaining stitches.
Cut the yarn, leaving an 8 inch tail.
Making Up
Pin the 6 petals in place on the hat with the cast-on end at the base of the stem on the top
of the hat. One at a time, thread each tail onto a yarn needle, sew each petal to the hat,
then weave in the ends on the inside of the hat.

Flowers- a few attempts



The white flower is sooooo much better, my friend pointed out that i had stitched the first one (yellow) wrong. I think i will knit more flowers, so watch this space.
